PLANE

Hi There,

I would like to share this little gem with you. it is called PLANE. PLANE is an acronym for Pathways for Learning, Anywhere, anytime – a Network for Educators. It is a great tool for networking between student teachers and experienced teachers and principals in Australia. There are many attractive features that hone skills in many ICT areas such as Games Based Learning, mind mapping, how to makes, etc. Have a look for yourself and join up!

Welcome to SCU Unimentor. I wrote an email to a fellow I have been mentoring as he is setting up for studying Technology Education. Although the name has changed a little bit, some of the units still cross over or have been revised. In the new course, there is a requirement for students to study both a literacy (English) and a Maths unit as per the Federal Government's move to increase graduating teacher's literacy and numeracy. Individual Learning Plan for a student from a NESB/ESL Background Background For the purpose of this paper we will call our student “Jimmy”. Jimmy is a Year-9 student from a refugee family from Sudan. His first language is Dinka. Jimmy has two siblings. His brother was taken by the army one night, and the family still grieves for his loss. Needs In developing an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) for Jimmy (who has English as a second language or ESL), it is crucial to assess his needs first. Jimmy is a refugee coming from Sudan to Australia. This has implications for him as our cultures are very different and how we are taught to think is also different. Listening skills may also vary between cultures, therefore it is important to weave listening and negotiation skills into lesson plans for him.
